They are a great rescue and love the hearts of these volunteers!! They go the extra mile to help these furbabies find their furever home! The virtual home visits and interview process are great to ensure the best fit for the recued dog. Thank you for helping us complete our family with the adoption of Isaac. We renamed him Scout and are all truly in love with him!!

Overall

I adopted two small dogs that had been in foster care with Big Bones for over a year. Vaccinations were almost expired, at 11 months. One dog was flea and tape worm infested, with a fistula piercing through his sinuses. The poor dog sneezed food out his nose when he ate. He only had three teeth left, all of which needed removed. He was underweight. The other dog had chronic yeast infections from untreated allergies in her ears and skin. Medication for allergies had been passed along with her, but was not written for her and was expired. She also had three mammory tumors, one of which was malignant. These dogs were presented to me as current on their vaccinations, under the care of veterinarians, and in good health. All of these issues came to light in a 10 minute visit with my own veterinarian. I was charged $200 each for the adoption fees. Big Bones was unwilling to assume the cost of the vet care, or even update the vaccinations without considerable dialog. The policy was to use vets from their list only, and to have them treated for anything they needed within one week. I was told by the foster to get them to my vet as soon as possible, so I assumed that Big Bones would cover the cost. Kristie Fisher, the owner, does not believe that she has to take financial responsibility for anything fosters tell you about the adoption. She finally returned the adoption fees, plus $800. $1200 of the $2800 spent on vaccinations, medicines, and two surgeries. Plus the chronic care of these precious senior dogs. My vet donated her surgical time. Big Bones claims to have hundreds of animals with hundreds of volunteers. How come there aren't any other reviews here? I would like to have been warned. How many other animals are in this kind of condition under the care of a "reputable non-profit rescue"?
