Teeth Cleaning
It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. In some cases, it may be beneficial to see the dentist more often (on a 3 month schedule) during active treatment. We encourage you to also discuss frequency of cleanings during orthodontic treatment with your dentist as they may be able to guide you regarding frequency and additional special care.
Fluoride Treatment
Space Maintainers
This is a device used in cases of pre-mature loss of baby teeth to maintain space for permanent teeth that have not yet erupted. If a space maintainer is not inserted when indicated, the adjacent teeth tend to tilt and drift into the empty space resulting in impaction/ectopic eruption of the underlying permanent tooth/teeth.

The teeth actually move to new positions resulting in a more physiological and functionally stable correction, unlike veneers or crowns that require cutting down the teeth and adding an artificial cap/surface in the existing incorrect position.

Tooth Extractions
Simple Interceptive procedures like habit breaking appliances, crossbite correction, space maintainers, etc. done at an early age when indicated can prevent the development or reduce the severity of future problems. Treatment modalities that rely on growth cannot be done after certain age and have to be appropriately timed to maximize positive results. Early treatment can regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions and reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth.

Invisalign Orthodontics

Braces
The teeth and bone of one jaw being ahead of the opposing one. More commonly, we see a prominent upper jaw/ deficient lower jaw, resulting in the upper teeth protruding ahead of the lower ones, creating an excess overjet. When used as directed, the headgear helps reduce/correct the discrepancy between the upper and lower jaws. Usually, braces are needed for full correction, but proper use of the headgear will reduce the likelihood that permanent teeth will be pulled during the braces process and improve the final result achieved with braces.
