Dental Examination
In addition to four years of dental school, Dr. Nygaard completed three years of specialty training in periodontics, gum surgery and dental implants. Dr. Nygaard is a board certified periodontist; a distinction earned by completing a credentialed periodontics residency, passing a written exam and oral exam with case presentation, and maintained through re-certification exams.
X-rays
At your first visit Dr. Nygaard will complete a thorough oral health evaluation. Dr. Nygaard will examine all aspects of your oral healthcare needs and review your options with you. A complete set of dental x-rays is required to properly diagnose your periodontal health and will be taken at this first visit. Plan to spend just over an hour with us at your first visit.

Â Dr. Nygaard attended Loma Linda University where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Â Dr. Nygaard continued her education for three additional years at Loma Linda University in the graduate periodontics program for specialty training in periodontics, soft tissue procedures and implant dentistry where she earned a Certificate in Periodontics and a Masters of Science degree. Osseous Surgery
Laser Periodontal Therapy and LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) are used to treat periodontal disease and save many teeth that were previously considered hopeless. For Laser Periodontal Therapy or LANAP we use the world's first dental laser - the PerioLase MVP-7, which was specifically designed for treating periodontal disease. The PerioLase laser is used as part of Laser Periodontal Therapy or LANAP to remove harmful bacteria and diseased tissue from the gum pocket by passing a laser light between the gum and tooth. The procedure is osseous surgery utilizing a laser. Patients do not hear or feel it, except for a little warmth. Laser Periodontal Therapy and LANAP promises the patient a pain-free method to zap away disease. The laser removes the diseased gum and then forms a clot that protects the lasered tissue, allowing the body to naturally heal. The result is improved gum pockets and more stable teeth.
Ridge Augmentation
Ridge augmentation can fill the indention in your gums and jawbone that sometimes appears where a missing tooth used to be. The indention happens because the jawbone recedes when it no longer is holding a tooth in place. After successful ridge augmentation a new tooth can then be created that is natural-looking.
Bone Grafting
3D Cone Beam Imaging (CBCT - Cone Beam Computed Tomography) captures a digital scan of a patients mouth. This image is rendered in 3D which allows Dr. Nygaard to see patients bone prior to surgery. Knowing what bone a patient has before surgery is a great advantage for dental implants and other bone grafting procedures. In addition Dr. Nygaard can map nerves and place virtual implants prior to surgery to ensure adequate space and alignment. We use the Vatech Green2 CBCT which faster and uses less radiation per scan than most other CBCT machines.

It is important to clean your teeth as directed, avoid tartar control and whitening toothpaste and use the sensitivity toothpaste provided.
