Neck pain may be caused by disc degeneration, narrowing of the spinal canal, arthritis, and, in rare cases, cancer or meningitis. For serious neck problems, a primary care physician and often a specialist, such as a spinal surgeon, should be consulted to make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe treatment.

Urology

Ultrasound
Physical therapy. A course of therapy guided by Dr. Pablo Pazmiño may include hot and cold therapy, ultrasound or an active exercise program which may help relieve symptoms. Exercises may include core body strengthening, lumbar and lower extremity stretching, and aerobic exercises. Patients may also receive gentle massage and perform activities to improve posture.
MRI
During your consultation, Dr. Pablo Pazmino will take a complete medical history to rule out other conditions that can cause symptoms similar to cervical herniations. Dr. Pablo Pazmino will also perform a complete and thorough physical examination. Radiography (X-rays) and other diagnostic imaging tests (MRI) will then be reviewed so that Dr. Pablo Pazmino can evaluate your bony quality, any instabilities, herniations causing any neural compression, bony spurs or other abnormalities to reveal the extent of damage to your cervical spine.
Radiology
2. Prior medical records. This includes any operative reports, radiology reports, injection histories, EMG and nerve conduction results. Also include consultations from other physicians, particularly those from your referring physician.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
Request that your imaging facility provide you with copies of your x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and any other diagnostic tests performed. Please send the films and the reports. We can accept CDs or films.

Sciatica
For patients with purely sciatica or radiculopathic pain at a vertebral segment Dr. Pablo Pazmino may recommend a minimally invasive microdiscectomy to decrease pain at this area. Removing a herniated fragment should decrease pain and symptoms generated from the degenerated herniated discs and any undue pressure. Upon successful decompression, the nerve can begin the healing process in its new environment and resume near anatomical function. Our patients can return to their activities of daily living.
Scoliosis Surgery
Scoliosis surgery is often performed for cosmetic reasons in younger patients, rather than pain alone since the surgery cannot guarantee pain relief but it can stabilize the curvature and prevent worsening therefore improving ones quality of life.
Whiplash
Age, injury, poor posture, or diseases such as arthritis can lead to degeneration of the bones or joints of the cervical spine, causing disc herniation or bone spurs to form. Sudden severe injury to the neck may also contribute to disc herniation, whiplash, blood vessel destruction, vertebral injury, and, in extreme cases, permanent paralysis. Pinched Nerve
Some of the terms commonly used to describe this condition include stenosis, cervical stenosis, arthritis, neck pain, and radiculopathy. Other terms that are closely related include disc protrusion, bulging disc, pinched nerve, neuropathy, disc disease, disc degeneration, degenerative disc disease, and black disc.

Next you go into our consultation room where you will meet your Los Angeles Spine surgeon. Your doctor will discuss your medical history and then your desires for plastic surgery. He will examine you with all this in mind and then discuss how spine surgery can help you address your specific goals. During your examination you will be seen by the spine surgeon along with our patient coordinator. We do not use non-physician “consultants,” as many Los Angeles surgical practices now do, because we believe you should have your questions answered by the surgeon who will ultimately be doing your procedure for you.

When this abnormal compression causes unnecessary pain, Dr. Pablo Pazmino may recommend a Microsurgical Lumbar Decompression to decrease pain at this area. Removing painful arthritic areas, thickened ligaments and bony spurs which cause painful encroachment in a specific area of the lumbar spine should decrease pain and provide an environment where the nerves can begin to heal. Upon successful decompression and after a course of physician guided physical therapy patients can return to their activities of daily living. Dr. Pablo Pazmino is currently collecting data researching the outcomes of patients who have undergone decompressions alone and his early results are promising. Patients have noted early return to work, driving, sports and sexual activities following surgery.
