I saw Dr. Jeffrey Stewart, DPM in 2016 for a severe case of plantar fasciitis that had last for more than a year. After trying many treatments which included braces, anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroid injections and extracorporeal shock wave therapy, we decided that I was a good candidate for plantar fascia release surgery. When it comes to receiving foot and ankle surgery, it’s typically a case by case situation. Some factors that play a role in whether or not you need surgery include the severity of your symptoms as well as your response to other conservative, noninvasive treatment methods.
Bunions
Bunions are most commonly formed in people who are already genetically predisposed to them or other kinds of bone displacements. Existing bunions can be worsened by wearing improperly fitting shoes. Trying to cram your feet into high heels or running or walking in a way that causes too much stress on the feet can exacerbate bunion development. High heels not only push the big toe inward, but shift one's body weight and center of gravity towards the edge of the feet and toes, expediting bone displacement.
Ingrown Toenails
Dr. Cameron is excellent, down-to-earth, and confident. He was treated for ingrown toenails and it was surprisingly less painful than expected. Certainly less painful than when I tried it on my own at home. The numbing/cold spray was the key. This is my office of choice for my podiatry needs.

Corns
Corns and calluses are hard layers of skin that usually form due to friction. Generally, they will be in areas of the foot that are bearing weight, or areas that frequently rub against the shoe. Soft corns are typically found between the toes.
Calluses
To tell if you have plantar warts, you should check the soles of your feet for bumpy growths. Sometimes these growths may come with a tiny black dot in the center. You may also have plantar warts if you experience pain when walking or standing up. Because plantar warts are easily confused with other foot conditions like corns or calluses, it’s important you seek professional help for proper treatment.
Fungus
The area of the toes is generally warm and damp, unfortunately making it a great area for fungus to grow. If left untreated, the fungal infection can spread, which is why it’s so important to get professional help early on and look into your treatment options.

Dr. Stewart is board certified in foot surgery and has hospital affiliations with Dixie Regional Medical Center, Kane County Hospital, and Mesa View Regional Hospital. Dr. Stewart specializes in heel pain, sports injuries, flat foot reconstruction, and believes in conservative treatment. He has been in practice since 2003.
Physical Therapy
Possible conditions that may arise due to injury of the Achilles tendon include tears, ruptures, tendinitis, peritendinitis, tendinosis, tendinopathy, and bursitis. When trying to diagnose if one has issues with their Achilles tendon, a podiatrist will commonly check for any pain, swelling, or discoloration around the heel or lower leg area. Different treatments for issues concerning the Achilles tendon vary, but may include over-the-counter or prescribed pain relievers for intense discomfort, alternating ice and heat therapy, custom-made orthotics, physical therapy, and in severe cases, surgery. To help prevent injury to the Achilles tendon, it’s recommended to regularly perform stretches involving the muscles of the lower leg.

Ankle Sprain
There are many reasons that play a role in why a person may develop flat feet. For instance, certain genetic factors passed down from parents can lead to flat feet. Children may appear to have flat feet; however, their arches should develop over time. Having overall weak arches, a foot or ankle injury, arthritis, or a muscle or nervous system disease may all increase your likelihood of having flat feet. Tarsal coalition, a foot condition causing the fusion of bones in the feet, may also play a part in developing flat feet. Other common factors that are linked to flat feet include diabetes and obesity.
Bunions Problems
Whether people shop for shoes in stores or online, the importance of getting the right shoe size is crucial in protecting the feet. Blisters and bunions may develop while wearing shoes that are too tight, and a loss of balance may happen if shoes that are worn are too large. The majority of shoe stores have an effective tool that can accurately measure shoe sizes, and this is referred to as a Brannock device. People who would prefer to measure their feet at home can stand on a sheet of paper while wearing the socks that are normally worn. This is followed by tracing the length and width of the foot, and the right shoe size can be determined by using a conversion chart. When it is time to purchase shoes, it is beneficial to try them on and walk in them for several minutes in the store. This can help to determine if there is adequate room in the toe area. If you would like more information about how to get your right shoe size, it is suggested that you speak with a podiatrist who is an expert in matters of the feet.

When it comes to treating flat feet or fallen arches, it’s suggested you get plenty of rest. Frequently ice the affected area to help reduce swelling. Performing daily stretches are a great way to loosen up your muscles and relieve strain. It may also be beneficial to look into orthotics or shoe inserts to help relieve the pain.

Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis affects the plantar regions of the foot, namely the heel, arch, and midfoot. When too much stress is put on the plantar fascia, or the connective tissue that stretches from the heel to the ball of your foot, inflammation, overtightening, and tearing may arise. This can cause foot pain. Because of plantar fasciitis, you may experience tearing with the first steps you take in the morning each day.
