With an immune system disorder, the body mistakes part of itself as the enemy and attacks it â€“ usually your joints, skin or tissue, although all diseases are different. For example, in the case of rheumatoid arthritis, the immune system produces antibodies that attack the lining of the joints. Nutritional Counseling
This multidisciplinary program is designed to assist participants on the road to developing a healthier lifestyle. Monday or Wednesday evening classes include nutrition counseling and activity education in a group support setting. A physicianâ€™s referral and participation in the Healthy Weight classes (see class description) are required prior to starting Lighten Up. After receiving a referral, participants will be contacted by mail with class dates and information.

Rheumatologists complete three years of extra training after medical school with a residency in either internal medicine or pediatrics. Some receive training in both.
