Medical Weight Loss

Primary Care
Some insurance plans such as HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) require a written referral from your primary care provider for services provided by our office. Patients should be aware of, and familiar with, such requirements. It is the patient’s responsibility to obtain a valid referral prior to treatment or service in our office. Without a valid referral from your PCP, we cannot bill your insurance plan, and you will be asked to pay in full at the time of your visit or may have to reschedule the visit after a referral is provided by your PCP.
Emergency Care
Any patient discharged from our practice for any reason will be notified by certified mail of our intention to provide emergency care only for 30 days, after which the patient will need to seek medical or routine eye care elsewhere.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a poorly understood group of diseases that damage the optic nerve, resulting in permanent vision loss and blindness, if not properly treated. Glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness and visual impairment, can affect patients of all ages but is more common in older adults.
Macular Degeneration
Dilating your pupil lets more light into your eye — just like opening a door lets light into a dark room. Dilation helps your eye doctor check for many common eye problems, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).
Laser Eye Surgery
PRK was the first laser refractive surgery approved by the FDA, in 1995. It was originally performed in 1988. PRK differs from LASIK in that no flap of tissue is created prior to resculpting the cornea with the excimer laser. This makes PRK a good option for patients whose corneas may be too thin for LASIK or have a curvature that might make creating a flap unsafe. PRK may also be a better treatment for patients with moderately dry eyes. The creation of a corneal flap with LASIK induces almost always worsens any pre-existing dry eye symptoms. LASIK does provide a quicker recovery than PRK, but PRK is considered a bit safer, due to no flap creation. PRK can be used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism and is a safe, viable alternative to LASIK for many patients.
Cataracts
A cataract is part of normal aging. Each year, cataract affects millions of people, including more than half of all those older than age 60.
Cataract Surgery
If cataracts begin to interfere with reading ability, work, night driving, or other daily activities, cataract surgery may be recommended
Eye Exam
If you wear or want contacts, you need a contact lens exam in addition to a comprehensive eye exam. Your eye doctor will perform special tests during a contact lens exam to evaluate your vision with contacts. The first test will measure your eye surface to determine what size and type of contacts are best for you. Your doctor may also do a tear film evaluation to make sure you have enough tears to comfortably wear contacts.
