Health Maintenance Cases More and more clients are trying to get started on the right track before their animals are obviously ill. They have discovered, from prior experience, reading, their own health issues or decisions, that this is the direction they want for their animals also. We offer them; well pet visits, general holistic guidance, health maintenance exams, chiropractic adjustments, vaccination guidance and county licenses.

I wanted to write about the value of fluid therapy in EARLY renal failure in animals. We have been doing this in our holistic practice for many years and are seeing that these animals live longer, happier and easier lives. Usually, these are cats and they have elevated kidney toxin values like creatinine and BUN, often intermittent vomiting, a decreased appetite, dry stool and increased thirst. When you perform the lab work you see that values are not "bad" - usually at the high end or just above normal.
Pain Relief – the laser is a reliable method to reduce acute and chronic pain. Treat with the laser as soon as possible after trauma. Immediate treatments will alter the levels of prostaglandins that accelerate the inflammatory phase, reducing edema and silencing pain. You will quickly notice relief in your patients that lasts longer each time you treat them.
Vomiting Treatment
Diarrhea Treatment
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Rottweiler - Lick Granulomas lower legs, prostatitis and now a recent bite Injury right wrist (just cultured as MRSA and antibiotic resistant to just about everything). “Blaze” is doing well on Rectal and Limb Bagging and direct injection into the wound (after numbing with lidocaine).
I trained in acupuncture, chiropractic and homeopathy during those years. I reached the point that I would only treat the surgical cases and left the vaccines and steroids to the other side of the clinic. Even with this limitation, I felt torn. Then came a pivotal event in my evolution. A puppy came in with parvovirus and I treated it homeopathically. Another puppy came in from the same litter the day I had to leave for a week of homeopathic training. When I returned I was told that the homeopathic puppy had died and they (the board) did not want this holistic medicine practiced at their clinic. I agreed to cut my hours, stay on and do surgery but also to pursue my holistic cases in a separate practice. This went well for a few months but I kept hearing about this puppy so I pulled the files and it was the OTHER puppy that had died. The homeopathic puppy went on to a full recovery!
There is also a very common knee problem (usually found in smaller breed dogs) called luxating patella (plural is actually patellae) or kneecaps, which can slip to the side of the knee joint when the dog walks. This condition requires its own set of therapeutic options. These may include Prolozone, PRP, Prolotherapy, laser, Nutraceutical supplements, homeopathy and related therapies, but this condition is usually mechanical or a malformation and may need surgical correction. We have seen many younger patients outgrow this condition or compensate well with appropriate nutrition, integrative therapies and time.
Heart Disease Treatment
Kidney Disease Treatment
Most conventional veterinarians advocate fluid therapy for cats that are far along into kidney failure as a final, life saving measure. We are finding that helping the owner start fluid therapy (at home) under the skin 1-2 times a week has a great number of benefits. Among these are...
Cancer Treatment
Many clients start searching the internet after their animal has been diagnosed with some form of cancer. Often it is when conventional therapy has failed or looking for a less drastic alternative to chemotherapy or radiation. We are often asked “have you treated this type of cancer successfully and what are your percentages?” it seems cancer cases are always thought of in percentage success rates. I am sometimes tempted to borrow something one of my many teachers used to say. When asked if he treated cancer his reply was “No, but I treat cases where one of the symptoms is cancer” This may be too fine a distinction for a new client to absorb but there is a perceptual difference when you look at a case this way. It is hard to not think of the tumor as the enemy and the disease itself but, from homeopathic perspective, the tumor is just another symptom, another manifestation of the central imbalance and the failure of the body to regulate itself.
Post Operative – Many surgical facilities use laser immediately after surgery at very low doses to accelerate the inflammatory phase of wound healing. This enhances the speed of the overall wound repair, and reduces pain. Post operative laser treatments can be done in less than 30 seconds. Wound Healing- Laser irradiation can be used in all types of wounds, including non-healing wounds. Lick granulomas benefit from twice weekly lasing. A single treatment will often promote an improved appearance and reduced licking. Laser can also promote improved tensile strength of the wounds. Wound healing with the laser is quick and painless.
When we arrived home a few days later, he was still stable. We we started additional therapy for another 48 hours and he regained a bit more feeling in his back legs but we also realized that, because of the motion at the fracture site, was not going to heal through natural means alone. Karen took him down to see Dr. Juan Sardinas (a friend and surgeon) at Miami Vet Specialties. He was not optomistic that Joey would ever regain use of his hind legs, or bowel and bladder control but we all wanted to give orthopedic surgery a try to stabilize the injury site. Surgery went great and as you can see by the x-rays below.
Around the same time, we had another Golden come in with an oral melanoma and a mom that was caught between treating, not treating, time, expense and caring full time for a disabled adult child at home. Seeing how bad Bolero’s chest was, I suggested a chest x-ray for her dog first. She took over 2 weeks to get the x-rays and to decide if she wanted to treat. His chest was also full of cancer and when she finally came in to get started, I told her I was nervous doing too much on the first treatment but would start slowly. She pushed (and I yielded) for the full therapy on the first visit as she was concerned she had waited too long. So, he had Major and Minor AHT (with UV since the machine had come in), Rectal and SQ Ozone.
