In the past when patients needed fillings placed in their back (chewing) teeth, dentists had only one choice of materials for these fillings: silver amalgam. Amalgam fillings are made of silver and other metals that are mixed with mercury just prior to placement in the patient’s tooth. Resin Composite
White composite fillings are ideal for small to medium-sized cavities in areas of the mouth that require moderate chewing pressure. Made of a composite resin, these fillings are colored to match your natural teeth and provide a seamless smile.
Veneers
A temporary is an acrylic or composite veneer that is placed on the prepared teeth for protection during the time the porcelain veneers are constructed in the lab. The temporary serves several important purposes: it protects the exposed dentin to minimize sensitivity, prevents the tooth from shifting, and last but not least, restores tooth contour and appearance. The temporary is placed with cement that is designed to come off easily so avoid chewing sticky foods such as gum or taffy. Use your toothbrush to clean the temporary as you normally do your other teeth. You may also floss or, if there is more than one veneer and the temporaries are fused, you may need a floss threader. To avoid possibly loosening the temporary, it is best to pull the floss through the contact rather than pulling it down through the contact.
Crowns
Porcelain crowns are perfect for restoring teeth which have been decayed, weakened or broken. Sometimes fillings get old and need to be renewed but the tooth itself becomes frail– this is where a crown would fit in. Bridges

Deep Cleaning
The results of your dental screenings are in and the news is not good. Your dentist says you need treatment and explains that it will be done in stages. First, is a deep cleaning of the spaces between the affected teeth and gums? If that doesn’t control the infection, or if damaged tissue has to be repaired, surgery might be needed. Flap Surgery
During pocket depth reduction, which is also called flap surgery, your periodontist folds the gum back away from the tooth. After scraping away the bacteria-laden plaque and tartar, the dentist removes diseased tissue and smoothes the surface of damaged bones. Then the dentist sews the tissue back into place. Removing or smoothing damaged tissue allows the gum tissue to better reattach to healthy bone.

Thin veneers are an effective option for aging patients with worn dentition. In many cases, minimal to no tooth preparation is needed when using porcelain veneers.
