Overall
(Background information) I was...

(Background information) I was referred to Dr. Green by my current doctor that is afraid they can no longer help me manage my thyroid (which they have been doing for three years based on labs) because my levels dropped drastically in six weeks and they feel something else is very wrong.

Upon arriving at Dr. Green's office I signed in as most offices have you do, I sat down and waited expecting to be called up to provide my insurance information and co-payment and be given the mountain of paperwork to complete as I was a new patient. Instead the receptionist starts arguing with one of the office nurses on who was wrong on the patient charts that got confused and who was actually waiting in the waiting room. I turned to the lady next to me and asked if she had been in before, she stated yes, I asked what she thought of the doctor and she told me she should probably just keep her mouth shut as she had nothing nice to say. I waited...everyone was being called ahead of me that arrived after me.

It has now been 30 minutes past my appointment and I receive a call on my phone. I answer and hear a familiar voice "Heather, this is ..... at Midwest Endocrinology, are you not coming to your appointment today?" I stupidly thought somehow I ended up at the wrong office and that's why they haven't called my name. I explained where I was and she stated "You're in the waiting room???" and I stated I am and have been for over thirty minutes. She comes to the front desk and reprimands the receptionist for not checking me in. I get called back by a nurse who needs to weigh me and take my height. I step on the scale with a heavy down jacket, fully loaded pockets and shoes and ask her if I should at least take my coat off to get a more accurate weight to which she replies "no, it doesn't really matter". I am walked to my room where the nurse comes in to ask many questions and one of them being if I use a pill box for my medication. I do not and she states I need to do this to make sure I am taking my medication everyday. Fair enough, friendly advice. Then the doctor comes in and suggests the same thing and states *****"You probably can't really remember if you take your medication every day and at the same time on an empty stomach." Which, unless I am crazy I know that I take it everyday as my health and well being throughout the day depend on it. I ask a question or two to which I get very patronizing answers and seem as though I am wasting Dr. Green's time. He states he will adjust my medication slightly and they will check my labs in six weeks. (Well duh! My other doctor can do that!) Irritated at this point I am just ready to leave.

I am checked out and head out the door thinking this is finally over. The scheduling person comes running down the sidewalk outside with paperwork in hand telling me she needs my co-pay and insurance. I walk back in and give her my insurance card and debit card to run my co-payment. She tells the receptionist not to run my card that she is going to come in Saturday and run everyone's co-payments. At that time the receptionist writes down my card number, CVC code and all (which I don't believe she needs) and I ask what they do with the paper that my debit card number is wrote down on after she processes the payment. She tells me they throw them in the trash!!! Before I can get a word out the scheduling lady says she will shred it if I like. Frustrated and bewildered by what has just happened in the last hour of my life, I get out of there as quick as I can. I would rather be sick than deal with an office like that ever again!

I would suggest anyone looking for an Endocrinologist to think twice about this office. If your insurance allows another Endocrinologist try another...or even have your PCP help maintain whatever your medical issue is. This is not worth the trip!

Too Clinical

Yes, the doctor is kind and answers your questions but runs the office like a hospital. To cancel or reschedule an appointment is like a trip to your dentist. He has a paid answering systems that refer you somewhere else and when you finally do reach a number that can assist you, you are told to leave your name and number and they will get back. Then, when you establish a report with this doctor, he will have you see his assistants as if he is too busy or has too many patients to give you his time. Give me the doctor who is part of your family and that you can reach and talk to and develop a relationship that he values as much as you do. One who realizes that an appointment is as demanding of the patient's time as well as it is his.
