Also called EVLA or EVLT, endovenous laser ablation is a minimally-invasive procedure that uses lasers to shrink varicose veins, precisely damaging the lining of veins so blood flow is prevented. EVLA uses a very thin fiber that's inserted through a tiny opening in the affected vein. As the fiber is carefully advanced through the damaged vein, it fires off a controlled “stream” of laser energy, creating controlled damage to the vein lining. EVLA is typically performed in conjunction with ultrasound technology, which is used to track the location of the fiber to ensure the laser energy is targeted with utmost precision for greater accuracy and optimal results.

Mammography
Also called digital breast tomosynthesis, 3-D mammography uses a special approach to enable highly-detailed images of the breast tissue to be captured. RAI is proud to be the first to offer 3D Mammography in Mercer County in an effort to improve breast cancer screening and prevention. 3D mammography is performed in conjunction with traditional mammography; once the 2D images have been made, a special x-ray arm sweeps over the curve of the breast, emitting x-rays as it progresses to make a series of images of thin slices of breast tissue that can be examined individually, viewed as a dynamic interactive animation or combined using special software to produce three-dimensional images of the interior of the breast.
Computed Tomography
Calcium scoring is a diagnostic imaging system that uses CT (computed tomography) scans of the coronary arteries to detect the presence of calcified plaque, a substance that builds up inside the artery walls and hardens, making it difficult for oxygen-rich blood to reach the heart. This buildup of calcified plaque in artery walls is called atherosclerosis, or “hardening” of the arteries. When calcified plaques occur in the coronary arteries, the condition is called coronary artery disease, or CAD, which is a leading cause of heart attack and death. During calcium scoring, the amount of calcium in the coronary arteries is measured and a score is obtained that can help determine an individual's risk for heart attack or heart disease.
Chemotherapy
Ports offer several advantages over IVs for patients with long-term care needs. First, a port can be left in place for a long period of time – even years, if necessary. Ports enable administration of a much broader range of medications compared to IVs, which are not ideal for administration of some types of medications. Once a port is placed, it can be used to take blood samples over time to monitor the effectiveness of treatment, eliminating the need for multiple needle jabs. And because they're concealed beneath the skin, ports are far less prone to infection compared to IVs that have openings on the skin's surface. Ports are used in patients who require ongoing medical treatments that include regular administration of medications directly to the blood vessels, including chemotherapy, kidney dialysis and nutrition therapy for bowel or digestive tract diseases.
Interventional Radiology

General Surgery
Traditionally treated with surgery, today's advances in radiologic treatments have resulted in minimally-invasive approaches that provide effective treatments for varicoceles without long and uncomfortable recovery periods or the risks associated with general surgery. Percutaneous embolization uses a tiny incision, usually in your groin, that allows a thin, hollow tube or catheter to be carefully guided to the varicocele. Image-guidance using fluoroscopy or a similar technique will be used to guide placement of the catheter. Once the catheter is in place, a special solution or tiny coils are released to create controlled scarring that blocks blood flow in the varicocele, diverting blood flow to other vessels. Once the procedure is complete, the catheter will be withdrawn and the incision will be covered with a special dressing. No sutures are needed, and you can return home soon after the procedure is complete, resuming most activities within about 24 hours. Percutaneous varicocele embolization is usually performed under sedation or local anesthetic (or both) without the need for general anesthesia and the risks it can involve.
Joint Replacement
