Rheumatoid arthritis – An inflammatory and autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the thin membrane that lines the joints.
Medical Weight Loss
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the ‘wear and tear’ type of arthritis that is created from overuse and overload. In the diabetic population, particularly type 2 diabetes, obesity is common and leads to loss of the articular cartilage (smooth layer that coats the ends of the bone). Pain from OA is dull, achy in nature, and worse with activity. Treatments include weight loss, anti-inflammatory medications, injections and surgery.
Emergency Care
Most of the time, patients with a shoulder dislocation will be brought to the emergency room. There, X-rays will be obtained, and a reduction will be performed under sedation after administration of pain medicine. X-rays will be taken again after reduction to confirm the shoulder is back in place. Sling use is recommended for 2-6 weeks.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Cubital tunnel syndrome is cause by a pinched nerve at the elbow. It is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome in that it is due to a nerve compression near a bony tunnel. Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve at the wrist, while cubital tunnel syndrome is compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. The ulnar nerve is often referred to as the funny bone. When you hit this nerve on the inside (medial) aspect of the elbow, it causes pain, numbness and tingling down the arm into the small and ring fingers. In cubital tunnel syndrome, the ulnar nerve gets compressed over time due to tissue build up on the medial aspect of the elbow.

Diagnosis is made with physical exam. Tenderness over the lateral epicondyle of the elbow and pain reproduced with wrist extension are common findings. X-rays are typically normal. MRI scans can show partial tearing of the tendon and inflammation.

Arthroscopy

Dr. Morgan has focused his practice on the treatment of sports-related injuries of the knee, shoulder, and elbow. A Board-Certified orthopedic surgeon, he completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. He uses his training in the most up-to-date, evidence-based techniques to treat professional athletes as well as students at local high schools and colleges and recreational athletes of all ages. He has served as a team physician for LA professional sports teams, including the Dodgers, Lakers, Kings, Ducks, and Sparks. He served as a physician for the international X Games.
Physical Therapy
Most clavicle fractures can be treated non operatively if minimally displaced. A sling is used for 6 weeks to facilitate bone healing. Physical therapy is recommended to restore full range of motion and strength. After the fracture has healed, patients can return to full activity as they feel comfortable.
Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is a condition where inflammation of the joint lining leads to progressive pain and loss of range of motion. It is divided into three phases: freezing phase, frozen phase, and thawing phase. During the freezing phase, pain is significant and range of motion begins to decrease. In the frozen phase, pain subsides put the shoulder remains with significant loss of motion. Eventually, the thawing phase will begin and the range of motion improves. The natural history of this condition is 2 years. The condition is more common in type 2 diabetics but the exact mechanism is unknown.
Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the common extensor tendon on the lateral (outside) aspect of the elbow. It leads to lateral sided elbow pain with difficulty gripping due to pain and weakness. It is usually from overuse and is the most common cause of elbow pain. Lateral epicondylitis is commonly seen in tennis players though anyone can suffer from this condition. This area has poor blood flow, so small injuries to the tendon through day-to-day use do not heal. Over time, the tendon structure changes from healthy normal tendon to scar tissue. This chronic, non healing tendon problem is the cause of the pain and dysfunction.
