Primary Care
Medication such as Flomax is the most common first-line treatment for mild to moderate symptoms of enlarged prostate. Most men initially manage BPH through their primary care doctor and are prescribed medication. They seek the help of a urologist when the medicine is not working or if they are experiencing undesirable side effects from the medicines.
Smoking Cessation
Lifestyle modifications such as smoking cessation, limiting alcohol intake (2 drinks or less a day), weight-bearing activity with exercise of at least 30 minutes five days a week (unless the patient is at risk for fracture and needs to limit high impact exercise), along with calcium and vitamin D supplementations will be discussed.

Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is the uncontrolled growth of cells that develop into a cancerous tumor in the testicles, the organs that produce sex hormones and sperm.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows the urologist to view internal organs and tissues using an endoscope, providing diagnostic evaluation of the kidneys (called cystoscopy), bladder and ureter. The endoscope is a flexible tube with a camera that returns an image to a video monitor. Rather than being inserted via MIS incisions, the endoscope enters the body through natural openings, such as the anus and urethra.

Lung Cancer
The PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test, also called PSA screening, evaluates a blood sample for elevated levels of the prostate-specific antigen. PSA is a protein that can indicate the presence of cancer in the prostate, which is a small gland below the bladder. The PSA test has saved many lives because of early detection of prostate cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men after lung cancer.

Multiple Sclerosis
In 2013 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA ) approved Botox to be used to treat overactive bladder (OAB). This expanded the previous approval to use this treatment option for urinary incontinence and severe spastic bladders from neurologic diseases such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. From 2013 to 2017, 245,000 people with OAB have used Botox to treat their symptoms.

Ultrasound
Viveve is safe, effective and the treatment should not cause any discomfort. An Ultrasound type tip is places in the vagina and it delivers pulses of monopolar radiofrequency energy, which results in the heating of the connective tissue. At the same time, cryogen cools the surface so patients may experience a warm or cool sensation during this process; however, it is not painful. There is no downtime following treatment, and patients can go back to work or go about enjoying their day.
MRI
Before treatment, the CyberKnife surgeon conducts a variety of scans (CT, MRI, PET, ultrasound) on the patient to map the tumor 3 dimensionally. During therapy, the patient lies under a robotic device, computer-controlled to move around the patient and focus radiation precisely on the area of treatment.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
Computerized axial tomography (CT scan) is an x-ray tube that rotates in a circle around the patient taking a series of pictures. The multiple x-ray pictures are reconstructed by a computer at different levels. Each level can be examined separately.
Chemotherapy
Doctors frequently prescribe chemotherapy drugs to kill cancer cells. The treatment can shrink existing tumors or kill cancer cells that are spreading. Some chemotherapy drugs are oral (taken by mouth). Others are delivered by IV (through a vein in the arm).
Radiation Therapy
Using radiation therapy to effectively treat the cancer — this includes utilizing a newer technology called CyberKnife which releases a highly targeted, high dose of radiation.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is a surgical approach that reduces trauma to the body, primarily due to smaller incisions (or no incision) rather than the larger incisions used in open or traditional surgery.
Vasectomy
MIS is an excellent option for many urologic problems requiring surgery of the kidneys, prostate, bladder and other aspects of the urinary tract, such as a vasectomy.
Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery is a surgical method in which a surgeon controls a robotic medical device that translates the surgeon’s hand movements to perform complex surgical movements.
Hysterectomy
Laparoscopy
The urologist performing the surgery will discuss which form of MIS, laparoscopy or robotic, is appropriate for the patient – or if MIS is an option. Sometimes traditional, or open, surgery is still the best option.

Botox
Botox is a drug prepared from the bacterial toxin botulin, used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery is the primary form of MIS and involves small incisions (smaller than one-half inch), through which a thin tube is inserted allowing a video camera and special surgical instruments passage into the body. The surgeon views the operating area on a color video monitor and utilizes the special instruments to perform the surgery.

A digital rectal examination (DRE) is performed to check for growths on, or enlargement of, the prostate in men or rectal lesions in men and women. During a digital rectum exam, a urologist inserts a gloved finger into the rectum to feel the condition of the prostate, which is in front of the rectal wall. Age related enlargement is not a particular concern, but if the gland feels unusually firm or hard, it may indicate an abnormal growth in the prostate gland and further testing can be performed.

No one knows precisely what causes penile cancer. It is less common among men who are circumcised when they are babies. Men seem to have a higher risk if they have HPV or AIDS, if they smoke, or if they have received certain treatments for the skin condition psoriasis.
