        Family owned and operated DeGrandpre Jewelers was established in 1946 by Leo DeGrandpre before his son GIA Graduate Gemologist Peter DeGrandpre took over. It is now operated by third generation Mark DeGrandpre an accomplished jeweler and graduate of the esteemed North Bennett Street School of Jewelry Repair and Design located in Boston. The Gemological Institute of America ( GIA ) is a nonprofit, private, postsecondary educational institution incorporated for the purpose of promoting education and research in gemology and related subjects. GIA's mission is to ensure the public trust by upholding the highest standards of integrity, academics, science, and professionalism through education, research, laboratory services, and instrument development. A pillar of the Easthampton, MA business community for over sixty years, DeGrandpre Jewelers is community minded and committed to the region's social and economic development.         This is a traditional jewelry store, not at all "trendy." It's family-owned and is the kind of jewelry store I've enjoyed shopping in for decades. There's a wide variety of rings, necklaces, and everything you'd expect. This is not the place to come for handcrafted pieces. There's plenty of free parking, including a lot adjacent to the building. Although I patronize the store for repairs, watchbands, and batteries, I feel offset by the proprietor. He doesn't smile or say anything to indicate that he values me as a customer or cares about helping me.
