Dental Examination
Dental exam every six months so your doctor can catch harmful conditions, such as cavities, in their earliest stages.
X-rays
Our oral surgeons will take dental x-rays to evaluate your third molars and the surrounding teeth. These will help us determine if your wisdom teeth are currently causing problems or if they have the potential to cause problems in the future. An evaluation of the wisdom teeth is usually recommended in during a patient's teenage years, typically by the age of 16.
Oral Cancer Screening
Our oral pathology services include the diagnosis of any growths or lesions that appear in the mouth. If you have noticed changes in the color or texture of the soft tissue of your mouth, gums, lips, face, or neck, contact our Cocoa, Fl office immediately to schedule a cancer screening.

Teeth Cleaning
Once treatment is complete, regardless of whether it is surgical or non-surgical, periodontal patients are almost always placed on an indefinite management program with either their dentist or periodontist. They will be appointed for appointments as often as every three months so that they can be closely monitored for recurrence of the disease. Pre-prosthetic Surgery
Your recovery from pre-prosthetic surgery will largely depend on the type and extent of your procedure. It is common to experience some swelling and inflammation after most treatments. Your doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatories, and you can also take over-the-counter medications to minimize discomfort.

Dr. Gerald Bird began his career at Western Michigan University, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. In 1980 he graduated from University of Detroit Mercy Dental School. Dr. Bird completed a one year general practice residency in 1981 and a three year residency in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Allen Park, MI in 1984. After thoughtful consideration, he and his wife moved to Brevard County and opened the practice in Cocoa in October of 1985.
Tooth Extractions
The surgical fee for the extraction of a tooth depends on the code level used by the ADA (American Dental Association). According to the ADA there are 6 different dental codes for the extraction of a tooth. A simple extraction has the lowest dental code and the lowest fee; the most difficult extraction (usually a wisdom tooth that is completely covered by bone and gum tissue and cannot be seen by the naked eye) is the highest code level and the highest fee.
Ridge Augmentation
If you are a good candidate for ridge augmentation, your doctor can begin designing your treatment plan. X-rays and digital imaging can reveal areas of bone degeneration and help your doctor determine the shape and size of your graft. Additionally, your doctor can ascertain the most suitable grafting material.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting. During a dental bone graft, your dentist or surgeon replaces lost tissue with grafting material. Over a few months, your body absorbs the material and replaces it with healthy, natural tissue, restoring the density and volume of your jaw. A bone graft can use your own bone, donor bone, or synthetic grafting material.
