Dental Examination
The complete oral examination is a “physical” from the neck up. This exam includes oral cancer, soft tissue, and extensive gum evaluations. We also evaluate the teeth for decay and failing restorations as well as check TMJ and bite functions. From this information we can give you the necessary information for making an informed decision about any oral health needs.

Oral Cancer Screening
It’s not “just a cleaning” anymore. Our hygienists with the Smile Center are dedicated to providing patients with complete preventive care. Hygiene services include oral cancer screenings, gum evaluations, the removal of deposits from the teeth as well as polishing. The hygienists are trained to take various x-rays, instruct and customize your self-care techniques and inform you of the ideal treatments for your mouth.

As a practice, we are true believers that preventive care and education are the keys to optimal dental health. We strive to provide “dental health care” vs. “disease care.” That is why we focus on through exams — checking the overall health of your teeth and gums, performing oral cancer exams and taking x-rays when necessary. We also know that routine cleanings, flossings, sealants and fluoride are all helpful in preventing dental disease. Not only are we focused on the beauty of your smile, we’re also concerned about your health. A review of your medical history can help us stay informed of your overall health, any new medications and any illnesses that may impact your dental health.
Dental Sealants
Prevention is an important part of dental care. We can fight cavities before they start by applying dental sealants. A dental sealant is a resin material applied to the pits and grooves on the tooth surface. On these teeth, the depressions and grooves are so narrow and deep that the bristles of a toothbrush can’t reach into them, allowing places for plaque and food to hide. The sealant bonds into the depressions and grooves and acts as a barrier protecting the enamel.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Dental inlays and onlays are conservative, durable, laboratory fabricated tooth restorations. They are used to repair back teeth that have mild to moderate tooth decay or for cracked teeth where the damage does not warrant a dental crown. Porcelain, composite resin and sometimes gold are used to create inlays and onlays. Inlays refer to those procedures where the bonded material is limited to the center of the tooth, while onlays refer to those procedures where the bonded material covers the chewing surface of the tooth.
Veneers
Veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic (porcelain) which are bonded to the front of teeth. This procedure can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance of teeth. Veneers are placed to mask discolorations, change the size and shape of teeth. Patients with gaps between their front teeth or teeth that are chipped or worn may consider veneers. Veneers can be an attractive, conservative, and long lasting alternative for creating a beautiful new smile.
Crowns
It can be as simple as replacing that old crown on your front tooth that has had the black line along the gum line with a new all porcelain crown that looks just like your other teeth.
Bridges
Dental bridges replace missing teeth and are very strong and beautiful. When teeth are lost the bite shifts weakening your chewing ability and straining the jaw joint. To prevent these problems we make a fixed bridge which is supported by natural teeth or implants. The fixed bridge stays in place all the time and is the same size as the teeth it replaces. We have many new materials to make bridges from. We would be happy to review your options with you.

Root Canal Treatment
Every tooth has a root canal space. These are the canals within the tooth where the nerve and blood supply runs to allow the tooth to be vital. When the nerve and blood supply becomes compromised due to trauma or decay, the soft tissue dies. This can sometimes be painful.

Dentures
Candidates for complete dentures have lost all of their teeth. A partial denture is suitable for those who have some natural teeth remaining. Both improve chewing ability and speech, and provide support for facial muscles enhancing the facial appearance and smile.

Dental Implants
After examination and x-rays, he thoroughly explained to me and my family, my problem of extremely thin bone, the options that I had and his recommendation of implants. I was very impressed with the amount of time that he took to educate me in the matter. I am extremely happy with the results, for I can once again thoroughly chew my food.

At The Smile Center we always make every attempt to treat your teeth and remedy any dental malady. Dr. Guest is a 1978 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. He is a member of The Academy of General Dentistry, The International Association for Orthodontics, The American Association of Functional Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, the West Virginia Dental Association and The Kanawha Valley Dental Society.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Each patient receives a complete evaluation and has individualized treatment placed. Our doctors check their patient’s progress at every appointment. We offer this service to patients of all ages. Our services include Straight Wire and Invisalign.
