TIP: Be wary of “contractors” who say they can save you money by not pulling permits for a room addition, kitchen or bath remodeling project.

If you live in a townhouse, villa, or high rise condominium building with four or more units, only a Building Contractor or General Contractor is permitted to perform remodeling work. Do not hire a Residential Contractor; he would be operating outside of his license. Furthermore, hire a specialty contractor (trim carpentry, drywall, glazing, aluminum, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, roofing, etc.) to do only the type of work the license specifies.

Make sure your contractor is properly licensed. In the State of Virginia, all contractors MUST be certified by the State and hold County business licenses for all areas where work is performed. Anyone can say they are licensed. Make the contractor prove it by either showing you the license or giving you a copy of it. Remember to check the expiration date and classification codes to make sure they are licensed for your specific type of project. If your project consists of new framing or structural repairs, the contractor must be a licensed Builder as well as a Class A contractor. Only Builder contractors are qualified to obtain County building permits for structural projects. Being licensed is the law. If a contractor cannot produce a valid license, DON'T HIRE HIM!

Sean Painter and Lyndsy Lewis were always available to answer questions and Sean Painter came by to discuss, plan, choose, and inspect work as often as we needed him. The crews for each job showed up on time, were very clean and completed all of our projects in a timely manner. I have been so pleased working with your company that Regents Construction has become our preferred general contractor and is referred to our clients for their general construction needs as well. After my home was damaged by a hailstorm in 2016, we contacted Regents Construction to take a look at the damage and we couldn't be more pleased with our entire experience. Jesús and Lyndsy worked hard on our behalf to ensure we received a fair assessment of the damage from the insurance adjuster. In the end it was determined that we were going to replace the roof and siding due to the damage. After the claim portion was resolved, Jesús provided excellent recommendations regarding the repairs, from color selection to materials. The crews that came out to do the work were superb. They worked quickly with little impact on our lives and left the job site clean. My wife and I are delighted with the result! Our 38 year old house looks brand new! The quality of the workmanship is fantastic and we feel confident the house is easily ready for another 38 years. Throughout the experience, Jesús and Lyndsy took the time to check in with us about the progress and patiently answered all questions and concerns. Top notch service!
