Preventive Care

Dental Care
Considering a cat’s behavior, these conditions are often not recognized by owners. A yearly oral exam at the time of preventative health care can help to identify this and other painful conditions such as Stomatitus. This is another extremely painful oral condition that cats are subject to and owners are often not aware of.
Vaccination
• We also do miniature horse, mule and burro dentistry. We often clean sheaths and do vaccinations at the same time at the owner’s request.
Behavioral Counseling
We also Vacation Board. That is a temporary boarding opportunity for those that want their horses looked after by veterinary eyes daily in case of need. The horse is not examined daily, but the veterinarian and staff walk through the barns multiple times during a day and note any behavior changes. IF there is a behavior that looks off, the owner is notified if we feel we need to do anything. Having the horse at our facility also saves money as there is no out call charge and no time to wait to treat if needed tunity that we offer. Those facilities are 12 X 12 with small paddocks.
Nutritional Counseling
Nutrition counseling: Ties into the above, but despite some pig breeders counsel, these fellows have to eat nutritionally as a first condition, not to be eating poorly to keep a weight down. Ask us about your pigs nutrition counseling. (don’t expect your mini pig to stay mini)
Comprehensive Examination
Our external physical exam is accompanied by an internal physical, bloodwork and urinalysis if indicated (older patients). This alerts us to any “special” medical needs / conditions that an animal may have.

Parasite control, internal and external: Sarcoptic mange is prevalent in pigs and should receive a frequent examination for the control of this parasite.
Pain Management
Laser treatment for healing, pain management and performance enhancement (athletes) has been used for over 25 years in human chiropractic medicine and is now being heavily promoted to the veterinary profession. Practitioners and animal owners are hearing terms and definitions that vary from “red light therapy” to cold laser, (Class 3) hot laser (class 4) therapy, penetration, joules, etc., with not a lot of understanding of what those terms mean.

Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
The medical treatment was short term and I’m sure beneficial, but I consider the laser therapy to have been the most productive therapeutic care she received. Her renal condition, her energy level, her skin problems improved dramatically. Her itching and scratching are now negligible and the bright red, scabby oozing areas of her skin are now scab free. Her coat is growing in full and healthy. All this I consider to be a result of the laser therapy.

Nutrition: Is always a consideration in treating several different conditions in cats. For example, Urinary Tract Infections which are sometimes seen by cats urinating inappropriately, may have blood in the urine, or urinating outside of the litter box. Occasionally a plugged male cat, which is an emergency.

Arthritis Treatment
Cold laser therapy has been used in Europe in human medicine for years treating arthritis pain, enhancing wound healing, and reducing acute tissue inflammation.
Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Can be from many sources. Body soreness to an abscess of the foot. Call for a good lameness exam to see what needs to be done to make your horse comfortable and avoid further damage.
Diabetes Treatment
Thyroid Disease Treatment
HYPERTHYROIDISM: This is one of the most common diseases in middle aged and older cats. It is characterized by weight loss, increased appetite, perhaps vomiting, increased drinking and increased heart rate. Older cats can also have renal problems that may be hidden by this disease.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Geriatric Cats (considered to be 7 and over): Yearly health exams are strongly recommended. Geriatric cats can be prone to conditions such as Hyperthyroidism, Kidney disease and mobility issues such as Arthritis
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Anytime you smell any kind of a foul odor in your pet’s mouth, they need to be examined for a dental problem. The bad smell may be from infected teeth or periodontal disease.

Wound and Fracture Care
Similar to wound care. Have it looked at professionally. Then you KNOW what to do for the best chance for that horse to come back as soon as it can.

Dental Surgery
Surgery including orthopedic (broken bones, stifle and hip surgery, amputations) soft tissue (abdominal, foreign body surgery), dental surgeries, spays and neuters.
Veterinary Surgery
Surgery: Our sterile surgery suit and state of the art anesthesia and monitoring capabilities, equip our veterinarians and technical staff the ability to provide a large range of surgical services, including spays, neuters, general surgery, dental and orthopaedic surgeries. We also do a lot of surgeries for our aged patients. Our surgical staff is aware of and are very careful to take the needed precautions for their needs.
Spaying and Neutering
If raising kittens is not in your plans, spaying a female reduces the chances of reproductive diseases such as a pyometra (uterine infection). Neutering the male tends to eliminate the need to “spray” to mark their territory and the urge to wander is reduced. Spaying and neutering can be done at 6 months. Cats come into heat at 6 – 9 months.

Better diagnostics mean better patient care and faster. Timely diagnostics allows timely treatment and timely treatment is more therapeutic and cost effective.
Dental Radiology
The most often oral condition seen is Feline Odontoclastic Resorbing Lesions: (tooth resorption) This is a disease, cause unknown, that is the most common, significant and painful oral condition affecting feline patients. The outer surface of the tooth erodes exposing nerves and creating significant pain. Many lesions are not seen with the naked eye and dental radiology is absolutely essential in diagnosing and treating this disease.
