Fluoride Treatment
A child’s primary teeth, sometime’s called “baby teeth,” are as important as the permanent adult teeth. Primary teeth typically begin to appear when a baby is between age 6 month and 1 year. Primary teeth help children chew and speak. They also hold space in the jaw for permanent teeth that are growing under the gums. When teeth first come in, some babies may have sore or tender gums. Gently rubbing your child’s gums with a clean finger, a small cool spoon or a wet gauze pad can be soothing. You can also give the baby a clean teething ring to chew on. If your child is still cranky and in pain, consult your dentist or physician. Most children have a full set of 20 teeth by the time they ared 3. We recommend seeing your child soon after teeth start growing in. Parents who have appointments may bring their children in with them for their complimentary “well-baby check up.” This helps familiarize your child with our office and also helps them feel comfortable with us looking at their teeth. When your child is ready, we may offer a fluoride treatment.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are a thin, plastic coating, that are painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth, usually the back teeth (the premolars and molars) to prevent tooth decay. The painted on liquid sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and groves of the teeth forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth. Typically, children should get sealants on their permanent molars and premolars as soon as these teeth come in. This way, the dental sealants can protect the teeth through the cavity prone years of ages 6 to 14. However, adults without decay or fillings in their molars can also benefit from sealants. Sealants can protect the teeth from decay for up to 10 years, but they need to be checked for chipping or wearing, at regular dental check-ups.

Resin Composite
Restorative services help to restore the integrity of your teeth, and stop the damage from spreading further. The x-rays taken and the examination done during your regular cleaning appointment allows Dr. Paventy to access the health of your teeth and determine the need for intervention. The most common restorative service needed is a filling. During a filling, the Dr. removes the tooth decay and fills the space (usually) with a composite resin filling. Gold and silver fillings do not expand and contract with the tooth during exposure to cold or heat. This can sometimes allow foreign matter such as food and bacteria to wedge itself under the filling causing decay to develop. Composite resin fillings however, have the ability to expand and contract with the tooth creating a better seal and a more permanent solution to stop tooth decay.
Veneers
A veneer is a thin shell of restorative material (porcelain or composite) placed on the front side of a tooth to improve the appearance of your smile or protect a damaged surface. Veneers create a bright, white, perfectly aligned look and are most appropriate for more severe cases of discoloration, wear, chipping, uneven teeth and abnormal spacing. Typically lasting 10-30 years, the expected lifespan of your veneers can be heavily influenced by the way you take care of them. Always practice good home care, avoid exposing your teeth to excessive forces and minimize staining influences.

Tooth whitening services are growing in popularity, and it’s one of the most requested services offered by our practice. The most popular method used in our office is using a take home tooth whitening system. This will whiten your teeth dramatically. Because tooth whitening only works on tooth enamel, it is important for us to evaluate replacement of any old fillings and crowns. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth. In addtion to the take home tooth whitening system, we now offer in office whitening. A porcelain crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength or improve its appearance. When cemented into place, the crown will fully encase the visible portion of a tooth and match the shade of your surrounding teeth. Porcelain crowns are typically used to protect a weak or cracked tooth, remedy severe discoloration, support a tooth with a large filling, hold a dental bridge in place or cover a dental implant.
