X-rays
Digital radiography (digital X-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental X-rays. This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of X-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged, helping the dentist and dental hygienist detect problems more easily. Digital X-rays reduce radiation 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental X-rays.
Oral Cancer Screening
Recent evidence suggest that oral cancer is on the rise and we want to take a more active role in increasing your awareness of the importance of oral cancer screening as well as provide the best possible care to our patients. With 36,000 Americans diagnosed yearly with oral cancer the dental office can be the first line of defense against cancer. There is a 90% chance of survival rate when detected early. We are seeing an increase in the HPV virus especially in the younger population so oral cancer screening is becoming more crucial everyday. Oral cancer has the worst 5 year survival rate of any cancer but if it is recognized early, then the chance of a cure/survival is good. Late detection is one of the primary causes of increased mortality rates from oral cancer.

Teeth Cleaning
Prohylaxis: A prophylaxis cleaning is a teeth cleaning procedure that is mainly used on individuals with an overall healthy mouth. A prophylaxis cleaning is designed to perform routine maintenance, such as removing an expected amount of tartar and plaque from the surface of teeth, gums and in between teeth. For those who visit the dentist regularly and practice good oral hygiene, a prophylaxis cleaning is likely to be the recommended teeth cleaning procedure. Although those who receive a prophylaxis teeth cleaning generally have a fairly healthy mouth to start with, it can help individuals remove unwanted plaque and any minor stains that exist on the surface of the teeth.
Fluoride Treatment
Flouride is a natural mineral found in water and many foods It appears in natural ground waters in varying levels, which is why some areas have too much and others have none. While you receive a certain amount of fluoride from your diet and using toothpaste with fluoride, fluoride treatment is recommended to further strengthen your teeth and prevent cavities.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are proven to reduce cavities by 70% in children and adults. Dental sealants are a clear or white resin material designed to flow into and seal the deep grooves in the chewing surfaces of children’s teeth. These deep grooves and fissures are areas that toothbrush bristles cannot reach to extract food and plaque. We often recommend dental sealants for permanent back teeth (molars and premolars) as soon as they grow in (usually between 6-12 years old), because these teeth are common sites of decay. Sealants acts as a barrier and help to prevent invasion of bacteria into these hard-to-clean areas and essentially protecting enamel from plaque and acids. Because sealants are made of a clear or white resin, they blend in with your teeth and cannot be seen when you smile.

Fillings
The proper placement of a white filling requires the site to be kept completely isolated from saliva. On few patients this is difficult to do and in these cases, a silver amalgam filling may be recommended since this material does not require the same strict isolation of the tooth.
Resin Composite
Dental veneers are thin custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve appearance. These shells are bonded to the front surface of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length. Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. Dr. Coello will discuss the best choice of veneer material for you.
Veneers
A temporary material will be placed on the tooth until the permanent veneer is ready to be cemented. A second visit will be scheduled in 7-10 days, this is when the veneer will be cemented in place after checking the bite and patient approves of the appearance.
Crowns
During your first visit we will remove any decay present and place a core build up if the decay is extensive. Then, we will prepare the tooth, take an impression and make you a temporary crown to wear to protect your tooth while the crown is being fabricated by one of our highly skilled dental laboratories. In 7-10 days you will return to our office and the permanent crown will be cemented onto your tooth.
Bridges
A non-removable or fixed bridge is the strongest and usually the preferred option. These teeth can only be taken out by the dentist. These teeth stay in the mouth all the time and they look very natural. You treat them like natural teeth. These types of implant-retained teeth are anchored by five or more dental implants per jaw. The Non-Removable Fixed Bridges are for both upper and lower arches and are classified as permanent restorations. Non-Removable or Fixed Bridges are also known as Fixed Detachables since the dentist can remove them.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal therapy is also known as endodontics. It is performed when the inner pulp chamber of a tooth becomes infected. The chamber itself is called a root canal. The procedure is non-invasive and will relieve pain and dangers associated with infection without requiring an extraction. During a root canal, the gum area is numbed and the dentist removes the infected pulp with a drill. Once the infected pulp is completely removed, inert material is inserted into the tooth as a replacement. Although root canal therapy has received a bad reputation for being a lengthy and uncomfortable procedure, the truth is that they have never been less painful or easy to perform. Advancements in modern dentistry have allowed root canal therapy to be simple, safe, and effective.

Deep Cleaning
Scaling and Root Planing: SRP is a slightly more invasive teeth cleaning procedure (non-surgical) that involves a deep cleaning of the gums, gum line and other supporting structures of teeth. SRP is recommended for individuals who suffer from gum diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis. Since SRP involves smoothing out the surface of the tooth root and removing any tartar and plaque that exists, it can at times take multiple dental visits to complete.

Dentures
“All-on-Four” solution is attractive to patients wanting to get rid of their dentures, and to people with failing teeth in need of a full upper and/or lower restoration. As the name implies, the All-on-Four technique is a revolutionary approach to dental implants that allows patients to have a fixed (non-removable) bridge on as few as four dental implants. The All-on-Four procedure takes advantage of the remaining dense bone in the front part of the jaws. By placing 2 implants at an angle in the back part of the upper jaw, the sinus cavity can be avoided. In the lower jaw, it’s the nerve canal that can be avoided by placing the implants at an angle. The entire “All-on-Four” treatment is completed while the patient is comfortably asleep using sedation dentistry, and the best part is that the procedure is painless and the patient receives their full set of replacement teeth in just 24 hours.
Overdentures
Removable Overdentures are traditional dentures that are anchored in the mouth by fitting directly over implants. Because they fit over the implants we call them overdentures. These dentures are removable and have to be taken out after meals and at night for cleaning. You treat these dentures like regular dentures.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are a predictable and successful mode of tooth replacement. However treatment planning is paramount to aesthetic and functional results. As such 3-D imaging in less than a decade has become the standard of care when planning implant cases, therefore the quality of the CT scan studies and the versatility of treatment planning software is also of importance.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
While nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation are designed to keep patients awake, general anesthesia makes the patient sleep through their entire treatment. Because the effects require constant monitoring of vital signs and breathing, general anesthesia is usually reserved for dentistry done in a hospital setting or very complicated procedures, such as oral surgery.
Tooth Extractions
Tooth extractions — Tooth extractions typically lead to the loss of 40 to 60 percent of the surrounding bone over the three years following the extraction procedure.
Ridge Augmentation
Ridge augmentation – Ridges in the bone can occur due to trauma, injury, birth defects, or severe periodontal disease. The bone graft is used to fill in the ridge and make the jawbone a uniform shape.
Bone Grafting
Allograft – Synthetic bone (manmade) can be created in the laboratory and used in the bone grafting procedure. Bone can also be obtained from a bone bank (cadaver bone).

Braces
Loving motherly way, she made me get all of the cleanings and fillings I needed before moving on to the “reward”. By the way, that “reward” was beautiful – she closed a gap in my front teeth in minutes, costing only a couple of hundred bucks, when I was considering veneers or braces for the same solution that would have cost me thousands! She doesn’t bill herself as a cosmetic dentist, but her work is absolutely beautiful!
