Your risk may be low, but we make note and inform you of anything that seems abnormal, because the rates of oral cancer in America are on the rise. Teeth Cleaning
We’re big on prevention methods at Abilene Family Dentistry. We don’t know of anyone that wants to spend a lot of time in the dental chair beyond their twice annual exams and cleaning—we try not to take it too personally. Instead, we understand and are happy to beef up your child’s defense against decay in the form of dental sealants.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are thin coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of your child’s molars (back teeth). These surfaces are a favorite meeting spot for food debris and decay-causing bacteria that can be missed by children still perfecting their brushing technique. When dental sealants are applied, they can reduce the risk of cavity formation by nearly 80%, and they can last for several years while your child continues to improve their hygiene routine.

Fillings
When we mention that decay can and unfortunately often does form beneath and around silver amalgam fillings, you may have other questions about them or even want old silver fillings removed from your mouth. We’re happy to answer your questions and perform mercury filling removal from the comfort of your dental home. Depending on the size of the old restoration, we can place a tooth-colored filling, inlay, or onlay to get your smile back to functioning without revealing you’ve had a cavity.
Resin Composite
If we catch tooth decay in its earlier stages, we can remove the damage and restore your affected tooth (or teeth) with safe, tooth-colored composite resin fillings. We prefer composite resin fillings because they’re durable, nearly impossible to differentiate from your natural teeth, and free from mercury. Composite fillings are also less likely to have decay form around and underneath them.
Veneers
Today, veneers are available to nearly everyone, can provide a smile makeover in just one treatment, and are a permanent cosmetic procedure. After some preparation of your natural teeth, thin shells of tooth-colored porcelain will be bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth you’d like to have enhanced.
Crowns
Having a CEREC Milling Machine in our practice saves you from having to make multiple trips to our office for restorations like dental crowns. With our 3D imaging technology and CEREC, instead of having to take messy impressions and send them off for the fabrication of your restoration while you wear a temporary, we can create a durable, beautiful, precise-fitting crown to get you back to smiling confidently in just one visit!
Bridges
A dental bridge is an excellent restoration option that can prevent the health consequences that pile up after the loss of one or more teeth. We can place traditional, Maryland, and implant-supported bridges in-office. Traditional bridges are the most common and are recommended when two healthy teeth are neighboring the gap. Those healthy teeth will be filed for the placement of crowns, which will support an artificial tooth, or pontic. Maryland bridges are a more conservative option as they can be placed without preparation of your neighboring teeth. Instead, the pontic will be held in place by metal or porcelain framework that will be bonded to the backs of adjacent teeth.
Dental Bonding
If you’re looking for a quick, simple, and economical solution to brighten the appearance of your smile, cosmetic bonding checks each of those boxes. We can paint a tooth-colored resin to the surface of your teeth to smooth chips and correct crowding, gapping, and staining. While the composite material used won’t last forever, it can last up to 10 years, and the procedure requires very minimal—if any—preparation of your teeth.

Pulpotomy
Pulpotomies and pulpectomies are also referred to as pulp therapy.
