Carter BloodCare is a nonprofit blood center that operates on behalf of patients in 28 Texas counties. Carter BloodCare was formed in 1998 through the merger of BloodCare in Dallas and Carter Blood Center located in Fort Worth, Texas. The blood center is Texas largest, providing more than 300,000 units of blood components for patients annually. Carter BloodCare is the primary provider of blood components and transfusion services for approximately 245 Texas health care facilities. These facilities include the region s children s hospitals, central trauma centers, major cancer centers, and transplant centers. Its facility is equipped to store, process, and test all blood components prior to distribution. The testing laboratory, operated by Blood Systems Laboratories, is one of the most advanced in the United States. Carter BloodCare is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks, licensed by the Food and Drug Administration and affiliated with America s Blood Centers.
