Ear Infections
In addition to the scheduled grooming there is maintenance that needs to be done between grooms. For instance toe nails need to be trimmed on a monthly basis. Trimming the nails frequently will ensure the vein inside the nail does not grow out too long. Once the vein has grown out we can only cut the nail back to where the vein starts. Ear cleaning also needs to be done on a monthly basis this helps prevent ear infections. Keeping your pet’s coat brushed and combed out in between grooms goes a long way to maintaining a healthy coat.
Emergency Care
In an emergency, seconds count. When you arrive with your pet on an emergency or urgent care basis, our highly trained staff will perform an immediate triage assessment to assess the stability of your pet and need for emergency medical intervention. In life-threatening situations, you may be asked for consent to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
Infectious Diseases
SNAP tests: point-of-care “snap” tests are available for certain infectious diseases such as Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, Canine Parvovirus, Giardia, and Leptospirosis.

We develop an individual program for your pet at your first visit with us and we fully explain the vaccinations needed and why. As with humans, vaccinations are developed for some of the worst diseases affecting our pets. Many of the vaccinations are given in a series to help build up the appropriate immunity for your pet. Your pet will not be immune from the disease or virus until the whole series of vaccinations is complete. If the breeder gave you any information concerning vaccinations already given to your new pet, be sure to bring these in to your first visit with us.

Endoscopy
Mendakota Animal Hospital has been proudly serving Mendota Heights and the surrounding community since 1998. We are committed to providing personalized care to each of our patients. Our facility was designed with the needs of your pet in mind. Our separate dog and cat wards, and indoor courtyard are spacious and clean. The fully equipped surgical suite, in-house full line laboratory, endoscopy unit as well as digital x-ray and dental suites clearly indicate our recognition of the need to diagnose problems early and keep your pet healthy.

Ultrasound
Imaging such as x-rays or ultrasound, which allows diagnosis of conditions of the heart and lungs, gastrointestinal obstruction, tumors of the internal organs or bones, fluid in the chest or abdominal cavity, urinary stones or gallstones, reproductive diseases, and bone/joint disorders. For most patients, gentle restraint can be used for these procedures, however, in some cases, sedation may be necessary.
MRI
To further help us diagnose health issues in your pet we use other diagnostic tools where appropriate such as flexible and rigid endoscopy, otoscopy, x-rays and ultrasound. CT scans and MRI’s are done on a referral basis while access to a board certified radiologist gives us the best professional opinion when necessary.

If it becomes necessary, we can make referrals for more advanced diagnostics like CT scans or MRIs if needed. We also have access to a board-certified radiologist for another professional opinion as needed.
