We took our puppy to Grandview for the first time last week. The vet herself (Dr. Garcia) was very kind. Our puppy received vaccines and was treated for an ear infection. We had a follow up scheduled for this week for more drops.

We called earlier this week to confirm the time of the next two appointments scheduled for him. The receptionist said, “sorry. I don’t know how. Check when you come in later this week.”

Ok, these things can happen...I guess.

Today our puppy was scheduled to be seen by a tech to administer his ear drops at 9am. The cost quoted to us last week was $20. When we went to pay (before he was seen) we were billed triple that amount. I mentioned that the bill didn’t seem like what he was coming in for, but was assured I was incorrect.

Nearly an hour after our scheduled appointment we were taken into a room (which was odd, considering this wasn’t a visit. Usually medicine is administered in the back room). After some unnecessary confusion, the tech realized that she had given the ear medication to the wrong dog. We were charged the other dog’s visit. What freaks me out is that they didn’t even take the time to check the name or breed of the dogs, treated the other dog incorrectly, and were about to do the same with our puppy! He’s only 3 months old! If I hadn’t been there to clear up everything (after repeatedly telling the receptionist and tech that none of the procedures sounded correct!) who knows what could have happened!

Absolute carelessness and lack of awareness. To make matters worse, his skin condition was never even looked into last week and the “medicated shampoo” they gave us was just a free sample they give to every dog in their “new puppy packet.” We discovered this today.

We will not be returning. It’s a total shame and the office should be ashamed of themselves.

We initially thought this place was great, we started taking our 4 dogs here when we moved to town. One had to have a gull bladder removed which the vet did with great service. My complaint is not soley with the veterinarian but instead the rudeness, of the staff as a whole. They treat the pets okay but they act like the pet owners are the problem. It seems to me they try to push their products on the patient owners at a large marked up price. They try to push things on your pet you do not want. They talk about your finances in front of other customers regarding procedures and what you can and cannot afford.

We have officially decided to move our pets to a more professional practice.

Overall

I took my two dogs in for a wellness check and, primarily, to get a renewed prescription for heartworm and flea prevention. The visit for the two ran me $311, which was high, but acceptable. We did have to wait more than an hour past the appointment time to be seen, which is tough with two active dogs. But what is prompting this review is the clinic's greed in terms of prescriptions. I told the vet tech that I wanted the same product that the dogs had been on, which was one monthly pill that prevented both fleas and heartworm. She acted like she didn't hear me, and she proceeded to ask me to choose between a pill and a shot vs. two pills. When I clarified that I wanted to keep them on the pill that handles both, she told me that they didn't have it and again tried to force a decision on what they carried at the clinic. I told her that I would take it up with the vet when she came in to see us. The vet told me that I could indeed get the prescription I wanted, Sentinel, online and gave me the web address to the clinic's online store. I priced the prescription at their online store and then at 1-800-PETMEDS and found the difference between the two to be over $93. I placed the order with 1-800-PETMEDS and waited for confirmation that Grandview Vet had authorized the order. Several days later, I received an email from PETMEDS to contact my vet about the prescription. The woman I spoke with at the vet's office told me that they would not authorize the prescription from PETMEDS. She didn't even think that Sentinel was available and told me that they were probably sending out expired medications. I told her that the same medicine was available on their own website at a huge mark-up. She expressed surprise but again told me that the clinic would not authorize that purchase. It is clear that this clinic is not satisfied with the $311 they have already gotten from me. The only reason to insist on use of their own online store is to make a tidy profit. I am very upset that I must now make a new appointment with another vet to obtain the prescriptions my dogs need.
