A miniscrew is a temporary device anchored to your dental bone to give the doctor 100% control of moving your teeth. They are only used in the toughest of situations when the doctor requires greater control of your braces. They have been routinely used in Korea and Japan for years, but have just recently (in 2003) gained acceptance in the United States. Because of this new technology, some patients who otherwise might have needed orthognathic (jaw) surgery or dental implants (to replace missing teeth) can be treated with braces alone without surgery.

Dr. Niaraki and Dr. Fadiani will consider surgical orthodontic treatment for those cases beyond the scope of dental correction alone and for those with facial aesthetic concerns. All growth must be completed before jaw surgery can be performed, however the pre-surgical tooth movements can begin one to two years prior. On average, jaw growth is completed by age 16 for girls and 18 for boys, however every patient is different. A simple x-ray of the hand and wrist can help determine when growth will come to an end.

Please contact the office so we can reschedule your appointment if you or someone you have been in close contact with has been exposed to COVID-19 or are experiencing ANY flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, etc.). In many cases, we can conduct a virtual appointment via FaceTime/Skype instead so there would be no interruption in your Invisalign treatment until you are healthy to come to see us again in our office.

General Dentistry
As busy as he was throughout his academic education, Dr. Niaraki still found time to participate in several research projects, eventually receiving two prestigious research fellowships, and was inducted into the Robert R. Andrews Research Honors Society. Dr. Niaraki was recognized by the Academy of General Dentistry for his interest, knowledge, and proficiency in general dentistry, and was the only recipient of the their award in his class upon graduation. During his time at Tufts University, Dr. Niaraki was a member of Project Stretch, a voluntary, non-profit organization in which dentists and dental students donate their time and energy to providing dental services to children around the world. In 2001, Dr. Niaraki traveled to Nicaragua where he treated hundreds of children living in remote villages without access to health care. During his time in Nicaragua, Dr. Niaraki realized that it was his passion to help people, as he witnessed first-hand the impact that a beautiful, healthy smile can have a person's life.
