Dental Care
The best way to ensure your pet's oral health is to have regular cleanings at our office. Discuss how often you ought to come in as well as a home hygiene regimen with your vet. Vaccination

Veterinary Ophthalmology
Dr. Sandra Kim has been practicing veterinary medicine since June 1999 and is the medical director of Lomita Pet Hospital. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she completed a one year rotating internship at Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles, California. During her internship she was able to work with veterinary specialists in the fields of internal medicine, surgery, oncology, neurology and ophthalmology. She studied Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine at the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida. It was through the Institute that she received her certification as a veterinary acupuncturist and veterinary food therapist. In April of 2013, she was fortunate to have been invited to visit the Humane Center for Animal Welfare in Amman, Jordan, where she took part in a training veterinarians and veterinary students. Because of her training in both western and eastern medicine, she feels that she can provide her clients and their pets even better care.

Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Also known as CDV, Canine Distemper is a highly contagious viral illness that can be debilitating and even fatal. It not only affects dogs but can also be seen in certain species of wildlife including foxes, skunks and wolves. Puppies and non-immunized dogs are most commonly affected, but pets on immune-suppressants may also be vulnerable.

A bacteria-based disease usually spread by infected water. It causes fever, lethargy, vomiting, bloody diarrhea and jaundice in your pet. Severe infections can cause organ failure and death. It can be treated by antibiotics but the bacteria can be carried for months afterwards and their urine will remain a health hazard to both other animals and humans. Leptospirosis in humans can be fatal.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
It is not uncommon to be able to spot fleas jumping off and on your pet’s body, but they are very small and very fast. They are flat-bodied, dark brown or black in color (unless they are full of blood in which case they can be lighter) and usually less than an eighth of an inch big. However, typical behavioral symptoms include restlessness, and chewing, scratching or licking certain parts of his body more often than usual. If you suspect that your dog or cat has fleas, you can check his skin and coat for signs of them or ‘flea dirt’ which looks like regular dirt but is actually flea faeces. If you aren’t sure if it is actual dirt rather than flea dirt, put some on a paper towel and add some water. If it is flea dirt, then it will turn a reddish brown as it will contain blood that the flea has ingested and then excreted.

The CDV virus is mainly transmitted through direct contact with an infected animal via bodily fluids such as saliva from coughs or sneezes. Inhalation is the most common way it enters a new dogs system. It attacks the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system.

Leptospirosis If your dog is going to spending time in kennels then you should also enquire about getting them vaccinated against kennel cough. The vaccine is usually given via the nostrils and protects against bordetella bronchiseptica and parainfluenza virus.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
The CPV virus is mainly transmitted through direct contact with an infected animal, or indirectly through contact with the stools of an infected dog which contain a heavy concentration of the virus. This contact can include inhalation as well as touch. The virus can also live in the ground for up to a year where it can be brought into contact with a dog by way of shoes.
Feline Retro Virus Treatment
Feline leukemia virus (Current guidelines recommend that only ‘at risk’ cats are vaccinated against feline leukemia virus. Those deemed at risk include kittens and immune-compromised cats).
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
There is no cure for CDV itself, but instead treatment revolves around easing symptoms and ensuring that further problems such as bacterial infections do not take hold. This is usually done in a hospital environment and may involve intravenous fluid therapy, anti-sickness medications, antibiotics, anti-convulsion medications and glucocorticoid therapy.

However it has been found in pets in all of the US States.

Senior Pet Care
If you are unsure whether your pet needs vaccines, we recommend that you schedule an examination with the doctor first. During this visit, the doctor will examine your pet and discuss which vaccines are necessary based on your pet's age, medical condition and lifestyle. For older animals, we believe that a complete physical examination should be performed every 6 months. It is also recommended that complete bloodwork and a urinalysis should be performed every year as well. This is so that we can ensure that your senior pet is healthy. Bloodwork and a urinalysis can screen for early signs of diseases before your pet shows any symptoms. If we can detect this early, we have a better chance of treating the disease or delaying further progression of the disease. Vaccine titer testing may be a better option for your pet, especially if he or she is older, has a medical condition that he or she is being treated for, or has a history of allergic reactions to vaccines. This option can be discussed in detail with the doctor.
