The City and County of Broomfield, Department of Community Development offers services for planning, building and engineering activities. It enforces building codes, zoning regulations and construction standards and issues building permits. The department is also responsible for traffic engineering, current and long-range planning, geographic information systems, mapping and code compliance, as well as the administration of improvement programs. The City and County of Broomfield, Department of Community Development operates a planning division that handles land use and master planning, as well as the development of zoning and subdivision code reviews and preparation of population, employment estimates and forecasts. It also has a code compliance division that undertakes the enforcement of municipal ordinances to protect residential and business areas through the investigation of junk vehicles, weed and rubbish complaints. The department supports a capital improvement program that manages the design and construction of public infrastructures and facilities for residents.
