Sr. Sol Mexican Restaurant

I believe this is the restaurant that now goes by the name SR. Sol. if so, it is absolutely delicious! I love it here and the service is excellent as well.

Sr. Sol is the best Mexican food in Athens.



It's a little misleading that the restaurant name is Taqueria El Sol De Zacatecaz and not Sr. Sol. It's the same place. But when you mention to your friend that you went to a great Mexican place they always say, "Oh, Sr. Sol next to the gas station?" Yep, that's the place.



I've been looking for authentic Baja style Mexican food since leaving San Diego in the early '90s and I had to go to Georgia to find it. I love going there for their tacos. I like the lingua (tongue) tacos as well as the barbacoa tacos. But the fish tacos, which are grilled and authentic, are to die for. Three tacos is all I need to fill me up, though their beans and rice - if you get a full plate entree - are good, too.



It's a bit hard to find parking, and you may need to eat outside if it's busy, so plan appropriately. They do offer great margarita specials, too. I especially like their peach ones! And their freshly made chips and salsa are addicting.



It's a great place to bring the kids as they have a large variety of choices on the menu and you can order plates for big appetites and a la carte for smaller ones. We mistakenly let my daughter order the veggie nachos, and she had it for breakfast and lunch the next day.



Great prices, very casual, yummy food, nice waitstaff, good booze and crazy Mexican sodas. What else do you need?

This is the best Mexican restaurant that I have eaten at in a long time. I would recommend it to anyone. Bring your friends with you as itmhas the best service of any restaurant in Athens.
